Kansas City Chiefs (-1, 48.5) against Philadelphia Eagles

Super Bowls fifty -fifty! A lot of history. However, this game could have a more rich story than most others.

As most of them know, the Kansas City Chiefs try to be the first team to win Lombard trophies in the Super Bowl era three in a row. What you could not You know that only one team – Vince Lombardis Green Bay Packers – won three team championships (1965 to 1967) since they started playing NFL Championship Games.

When it was time for the pack that won three super bowls in a row, they were too short. Just like the Miami Dolphins, Pittsburgh Steelers (twice), San Francisco 49ers, Dallas Cowboys, Denver Broncos and New England Patriots. Give the chiefs a lot of recognition. They are the only ones who try to make three-go village that go back to the Super Bowl.

Here is the side of the story of Philadelphia Eagles. Saquon Barkley is the ninth player who hurry in a single season for 2,000 yards. Of the other eight players who do this, only Terrell Davis from the Broncos achieved the Super Bowl this season in 1998.

This is really a “super” super bowl. The chiefs have only lost one real Play since Christmas day in 2023. After all, most of their starter were sitting in the defeat of the Broncos in the 18th week.

Some question How You won this season. They achieved a toenail against Baltimore, a blocked field gate at the end of the game against Denver, a Raiders in the last seconds and a doink for a game-winning Field goal attempt, which faces the charger, to name a few. However, when you won 17 games in a row, these questions stopped the AFC championship game against Buffalo Bills a long time ago. It is not an accident.

In order not to be exceeded, the Eagles have only had one loss since the beginning of October. Head coach Nick Sirianni said several times: “We don’t care how we win.” Here, too, they are not always linked to stylish points. The conclusion is the two teams with the fewest question marks on their squad that made it into the Super Bowl, and in retrospect this is no surprise. Another interesting note: These teams won the first two games of the season – the chiefs at the start on Thursday evening and the Eagles on Friday evening in Brazil – and now they play in the last.

Two years ago they played in a fabulous Super Bowl Lvii in Arizona, a game that I called “the roaster in the toaster” (I call the home stadium of the cardinals “The Big Toaster”). Kansas City won 38-35 in the last seconds, of course by a score. I don’t think this game will be so high. However, I expect both teams to score in the neighborhood of the upper 20s.

What can we take from this game two years later? Barkley is obviously the return for the Eagles. The offensive line has experienced a few changes – Jason Kelce now works for ESPN – but they are still excellent. The Tush Push is alive and good. Interestingly, the Eagles have changed both coordinators twice Since then Kellen Moore called the crime and Vic Fangio called the defense. A quick look back at this Super Bowl shows that QB Jalen Hurts, who played brilliant on that day, met Devonta Smith seven times and was connected to AJ Brown and Dallas Goedert six times. They are all still there. General Manager Howie Roseman deserves great praise that she has made a strong defense even more and younger. His first round from 2023 Jalen Carter and Nolan Smith Jr. emerged in advance, and the two best picks last year, Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper Dejean, emerged in the defensive back field. He also exchanged for Zack Baun and added him to an already first -class unit. The result: In their three playoff wins, the Eagles are only in sales differential.

On the other side line, Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes have already written their names as one of the great coaches/QB duos of all time in the NFL. Te Travis Kelce, who had six receptions and a touchdown in Super Bowl LVII. Kelce caught 97 passes during the regular 2024 season, a “from” year for him. In the reception department, apart from Kelce, the chiefs chose an “everyone” approach, especially because of injuries to summer, which forces Reid and Mahoms to be a lot of AD -Lib. The chiefs are now as healthy as the whole season, which means that Hollywood Brown is again at Wide Receiver and Isiah Pacheco runs back (although Kareem Hunt may get more wear in this game). The biggest change was in the O-Line, where the Pro Bowl-Wachmann Joe Thuney attacked the left. That was clearly going well.

Last season the chiefs won the Super Bowl with the strength of Steve Spagnuolo’s defense. This season was followed by a similar formula to Chris Jones, Nick Bolton and Trent McDuffie KC at every level. The real closure of L’Jarius Sneed went to Tennessee in the low season, but Spagnuolos current flashes again worked wonders. This was shown in the last minutes of the AFC championship game against the Bills when McDuffies Blitz Josh Allen’s fourth litter changed.

So … who wins on Sunday? The biggest Matchup I will observe is what the chiefs defense will do to keep Barkley from another outstanding performance. Remember he ran 205 meters against the Rams and over 100 in the other two playoff victories of the Eagles. This is so fascinating because we have not seen a season for the return for about a decade, as we saw with Barkley and Derrick Henry when Adrian Peterson ran so strongly for the Minnesota Vikings. I am sure that Spags have not forgotten how to defend great running backs. It’s just that we didn’t see that for a while, especially in the Super Bowl. If Barkley for the Eagles for 115 yards, will that be enough to jump everything else?

Then there is the ball carrier that very few people talk about, but one who continues to confuse against the opposing defensive coordinators. His name is Patrick Mahomes. I call it the “electrical eel” because in the greatest moments of the game he will slide for an important run according to third run. His arm and his ability to find Kelce or the right recipient at the right time remains to be seen. I asked myself all season whether the chiefs could wear their search for three consecutive Super Bowl titles from start to finish. If so, you understand that we may never see that again. I am a idiot for the story – I classified it at Brown – and it certainly doesn’t matter to see it every now and then.

Kansas City 27, Philadelphia 24

PS I may also be a softie for a three-goal, which I somehow made in this column. If the Swami can do it, I thought that the chiefs could do too.
