City, County Tornado accommodation on the face of the storm threat on Sunday evening | Local news

The Tornado accommodations were to be opened in Henry County on Sunday at 6 p.m. when a strong storm front moved to West Tennessee.

According to Ronald Watkins, director of the Henry County Emergency Management Agency, the shelters’ openings were triggered by the exhibition of a severe storm guard by the National Weather Service or NWS.

“Storm is expected this evening with the opportunity to damage wind and tornados,” said Watkins.

From 4 p.m., the NWS office in Memphis was waiting for numerous heavy storms in West Tennessee on Sunday afternoon and evening.

While no Tornado watch was activated for Henry County at that time, there was a Tornado watch for the nearby Weokley County, which means that the region should stay on the alarm until the storm had passed.

“People should have several options this evening to get weather notifications,” said Watkins. “Do you have a plan to protect yourself in a robust building.”

The locations for the accommodation are as follows:

  1. Inman School Tornado Shelter, 400 Harrison St., Paris.
  2. Harrellson School, 143 Puryear Country Club Road, Puryear.
  3. Lakewood School, 6745 hwy. 79 northeast of Paris.
  4. Henry School, 937 Pioneer Road, Henry.
  5. Accommodation behind Cottage Grove City Hall, 7030 Main St., Cottage Grove.
