A cross -country skiing system broke through the south and the middle west over the weekend, accompanied by tornados, dust towers and forest fires. Serious damage was reported in at least eight states.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported 12 deaths by tornados and storms, which caused widespread damage in parts of the state.

Officials said six people died in southern Mississippi. The state experienced a dozen tornados for over 48 hours, including one with a 70 miles long route.

Dry vegetation and violent storm winds fueled forest fires that swept through Oklahoma. Almost 300 houses and other structures were destroyed throughout the state, said Governor Kevin Stitt at a press conference on Saturday.

Governor Kay Ivey from Alabama said on Sunday that reports on damage were given in 52 of the 67 counties of the state. Three deaths were confirmed on Sunday.
